A constructive manifestation of the Kleene-Kreisel continuous functionals

چکیده
We identify yet another category equivalent to that of Kleene–Kreisel continuous functionals. Reasoning constructively and predicatively, all functions from the Cantor space to the natural numbers are uniformly continuous in this category. We do not need to assume Brouwerian continuity axioms to prove this, but, if we do, then we can show that the full type hierarchy is equivalent to our manifestation of the continuous functionals. We construct this manifestation within a category of concrete sheaves, called C-spaces, which form a locally cartesian closed category, and hence can be used to model system T and dependent types. We show that this category has a fan functional and validates the uniform continuity axiom in these theories. Our development is within informal constructive mathematics, along the lines of Bishop mathematics. However, in order to extract concrete computational content from our constructions, we formalized it in intensional Martin-Löf type theory, in Agda notation, and we discuss the main technical aspects of this at the end of the paper.

Representation theorems for transfinite computability and definability
The continuous functionals were independently introduced by Kleene [6] and Kreisel [7]. Kleenes motivation was to isolate a subclass of the total functionals of pure, finite type closed under S1-S9-computations (Kleene [5]) which could be described using countable information. He defined his functionals via the associates and the idea is that an associate for a functional Ψ contains sufficient ...
متن کاملComputability of Continuous Solutions of Higher-Type Equations
Given a continuous functional f : X → Y and y ∈ Y , we wish to compute x ∈ X such that f(x) = y, if such an x exists. We show that if x is unique and X and Y are subspaces of Kleene–Kreisel spaces of continuous functionals with X exhaustible, then x is computable uniformly in f , y and the exhaustion functional ∀X : 2 → 2. We also establish a version of the above for computational metric spaces...
متن کاملDensity and Choice for Total Continuous Functionals* 1. Information Systems
In his seminal paper Interpretation of analysis by means of constructive functionals of nite types in the volumèConstructivity in Mathematics' edited by A. Heyting in 1959 Georg Kreisel has studied partial and total continuous higher order functionals. The paper states two important theorems on these notions: the density theorem, which says that any nite functional can be extended to a total on...
متن کاملComparing hierarchies of total functionals
In this paper, we will address a problem raised by Bauer, Escardó and Simpson. We define two hierarchies of total, continuous functionals over the reals based on domain theory, one based on an “extensional” representation of the reals and the other on an “intensional” representation. The problem is if these two hierarchies coincide. We will show that this coincidence problem is equivalent to th...

We give a characterisation of an extension of the Kleene-Kreisel continuous functionals to objects of transfinite types using limit spaces of transfinite types.
